Default Deleted character resurrection.

Hi all. Not sure if this idea has been posted before. I'm too lazy to search the forum to check.

Recently a guildie had his account 'hacked' and had all his stuff and characters deleted. This got me thinking of ways to recover from this kind of catastrophe.

I agree, restoring characters is really open to exploit. Salvage your armour, delete your character then run crying to ANet to get a character un-deleted complete with a new set of armour to salvage. I know, this is a really crappy way to get materials but it's an exploit. And that is wrong!

The best way I thought up to get around this malarky is for ANet to offer a one-time payment to 'protect' your characters, xp and titles. Nothing else. You lose all cash, items and armour that was on the deleted character, but you get the character back.

With the money this would generate, ANet would easily be able to set up a system to take a snapshot of your character and what you've done and save it to a protected server. For an extra charge they could also re-snapshot you every month, just to keep things up to date (ish).

OK, that's the idea. Please... discuss...

Now, they let you have back your character but without armos, golds, items, everthing. Why don't you just make another one that looks the same as your old? .-.

Yea ok, skills and titles. But it really sounds like a "nono", and can't see this happen.

totally /signed

I put 3000 hours into my warrior. if i lose her theres no way i'm gonna want to just make a new warrior that looks like her and start all over again.

20million xp and 22 maxed titles takes a while. i'm not doing it again. i can farm the money for more armour and weapons.

who says that i dont put everyt hing into storage from the tooni want del and then brought back, still a bad thing to do but wont say poeple wont do this yeah i have tried making armor for a toon del and then re making it (survior reasons) but the armor wont go onthe new toon even if it was the same name , so as long as they could do somethign to get around this toon , its not a good thing to put in game

should be the following armor for old toon is not used even if it was same toon that means if you have 3 sets of armor for that toon you would not be able to use that armor or get the armor when it is brought back,

yeah looseing allyour armor is big but iwoudl rather have myranger brought back naked then to loose him for good

but still not signed if you toon is del it is your fault for being a newb

So the message on the log in screen "Players, protect your account" isn't enough of a warning to not do stuff that will get your account hacked? I have been playing for 3 years with no issues.

Even if this did happen , Why should people have to pay for it?

I personally don't see the point in /notsigning this.

Positive effects: Lets people who have had their character deleted for whatever reason get the character back.

Negative effects: None.

Good idea. Needs a slight change. Why not have ANet take a 'shapshot' (as you say) of your toon before deletion? That way if you accidentally delete you can get everything back and if you get hacked, you get something back.

There's no way to exploit that.

That is, actually, a better idea.

Slayer Z, I mentioned applying a charge for this because ANet don't do anything useful unless there's something in it for them.

Too bad...what if someone used the characters name for their new character between it being deleted and you 'ressurecting' it?

/signed for the fact that it's a substantial loss to people
/notsigned however for the fact that it WILL get abused, and probably removed anyway because of abuse.

There would be so many abuses this wouldn't even be funny, I'm pretty sure it doesn't even need a /notsigned.

I completely agree how can you notsign this? Lets make it like "character must be over 3 months old...blah blah" and you can rezz it...

Well, it can always be done the way it is in some other MMOs.
In Lineage 2, when you removing your char you have to wait for a week. During this time char is not playable, but you have time to make up your mind, or recover your account in case of hacking.
I think it's good solution for PvE characters, and don't leave the abuse possibility.

The best way would be :
You can "rez" your character, but s/he doesn't have any armors/weapons on her/him.
With this, I don't really see how you could exploit this + you will still have your playtime and titles.

@akodo : the same system exist in various games and should be add to GW, but I think that one of the main reason that they don't do this is because he have a set number of slots. And with that system, it will be hard to switch professions on PvP chars.

anyways I believe AreaNet can restore a character if an account is hacked not due to third party programs or password sharing.

I think that Gaile or someone else already told us that to restore a character would require a server rollback.
